Nile tilapia is the most farmed species in Côte d'Ivoire. It tolerates high densities, accepts a simple feed and sells whole on every market in the country, which makes it the entry species for most new farmers.

Species sheet

Nile tilapia is a hardy, omnivorous freshwater fish that reaches a market size of 300 to 400 g in five to seven months depending on temperature, density and feed. It breeds very early and very often: without control of the fingerlings' sex, a pond fills with small fish that never grow. That is the first thing to understand before stocking.
